New Jersey Puts Up Giant Statue Of Woman’s Head In The Hudson River
An enormous 72-foot-tall sculpture of a woman’s head holding its finger to its lips has been erected on New Jersey’s waterfront facing New York City across the Hudson, and yes…a lot of people think it’s telling New Yorkers to be quiet.
Artist Jaume Plensa says that’s not the case, and that his “Water’s Soul” art installation is intended to remind everyone to “keep silent and listen to the profound noise of the water talking to us.” A dedication ceremony is planned for tomorrow, and Plensa said in a statement he hopes the sculpture would become a ‘landmark that visually connects it with New York City.’
