Superheroes, princesses and cartoon characters, all popular requested Halloween costumes for the kids. How do you find the most requested costumes without them coming across as inappropriate or offensive?

- The most offensive costume named was the controversial “Ann Frank” costume
- 45% of parents say that costume should be banned, along with:
- Anything blackface (43%)
- Confederate flag costumes (38%)
- Anything transphobic (37%)
- Pandemic related costumes (32%)
- Anything portraying cultural stereotypes (29%)
- Costumes depicting controversial figures (i.e. Adolf Hitler, Donald Trump) (26%)
- Overtly sexual costumes (i.e. sexy nurse, sexy cop) (24%)
- Homeless person costume (23%)
- Religious costumes (18%)
- 45% of parents admit they regret some of their past Halloween costume choices, which are now considered inappropriate or offensive.
- 37% don’t feel guilty about wearing those type of costumes.
- 63% say they are now more careful about offending anyone with their family’s costume choices.
When it comes to safe choices of costumes, parents have some definite thoughts on what costumes are okay for kids. They include:

- Dressing up as food (58%)
- Dressing up as animals (58%)
- Crayons (56%)
- A ghost (51%)
- A vampire (49%)
- A witch (47%)
