The Olympics are fully under way in Tokyo, and this year there are several new sports on the schedule, like skateboarding, surfing, judo and more. But are these welcome additions?
- A new YouGov poll asked Americans how they feel about the new additions and it looks like most folks are all for them.
- Overall, Karate seems to be the most popular new addition, with 56% of people supporting it being in the Olympics, and only 18% of people against it.
- As for how they feel a about other new additions:
- Baseball – 53% in favor of it/23% against
- Softball - 49% in favor of it/24% against
- Skateboarding - 42% in favor of it/33% against
- Surfing - 39% in favor of it/33% against
- But there are a few additions where more people are against it rather the support it, including:
- Freestyle BMX - 35% in favor of it/35% against
- Sports Climbing - 31% in favor of it/37% against
- 3 on 3 Basketball - 26% in favor of it/39% against
- And it seems Americans are in favor of even more Olympic additions.
- Lacrosse is the sport that most Americans would like to see added (12%), followed by:
- Bowling (11%)
- American football (9%)
- Dodge ball (8%)
- Roller Skating (8%)
- Water Skiing (8%)
- Surprisingly, 2% would even be okay with seeing the Harry Potter-created game Quidditch in the Olympics.
