Why 33 is the age most American's experience their "Financial Awakening."

33, it seems to be the magical age we starting getting serious about our finances and by now you’ve probably heard the rule of thumb is to stash away 20% of your income for the future. Don’t worry if this is the first you’re hearing of it because basically, no one is doing it. The survey found the average people are putting away is more like 9%. Meanwhile, more than four in 10 people said they’re “afraid” to look at their checking or savings account balance. While 33 is the average age people seem to get their finances in order, what triggers it is different for almost everyone. The most common thing that forced people to take a hard look at their budget was a sudden drop in income around this age.
