Missing Out On Fun Because Of Money? Your Not Alone!

  • A new survey finds 68% of Americans have skipped some sort of recreational activity because of the cost
  • 42% decided not to take a vacation (of at least one overnight stay), while 32% passed on a music concert or live arts event
  • 50% of folks say they skip fun activities because the activity was expensive and not worth the cost

While going on vacation, or checking out your favorite band in concert is guaranteed to give you memories to last a lifetime, a lot of people aren’t getting to experience such joys for one simple reason – money.

In case you missed it, a new Bankrate survey finds that 68% of Americans have skipped some sort of recreational activity because of the cost.Of the things folks skipped out on:

  • 42% decided not to take a vacation (of at least one overnight stay)
  • 32% passed on a music concert or live arts event
  • 28% chose not to dine out with family and friends
  • 26% passed on a trip to the amusement park, zoo or aquarium
  • 26% gave up attending a professional sports game
  • 25% sacrificed going to the movies

So why are most people skipping out on fun activities? Well, 50% say it’s because the activity was expensive and not worth the cost.Other reasons include: 

  • Not enough money left after paying bills (43%)
  • Saving for other things (41%)
  • Have credit card debt to pay off (21%)
  • Have student loan to pay off (13%)
