Every Easter for the last few years, the folks at Just Born, makers of the iconic Peeps candy, have come out with a special edition of the marshmallow chicks covered in white sugar and they’ve kept the flavor a mystery for fans to try to identify. This year they did it again and the taste testers at the “Daily Meal” tried three boxes of Mystery Peeps and didn’t do so well at guessing the flavors.
Now that the 2018 Mystery Peeps flavors have been revealed, here’s what the real flavors are and what the guys at the magazine got wrong:
- Flavor #1 - Their guess: Mint, Real Flavor: Root Beer Float. These two flavors seem pretty unrelated, but the tasters seemed to confuse the sassafras of root beer floats for the bite of spearmint. Each tester said this flavor was like marshmallow with hints of conversation hearts and kids’ toothpaste, but it was just ice cream and root beer.
- Flavor #2 - Their guess: Lemon-Lime, Real Flavor: Lemonade. This time the taste testers came close to guessing the actual flavor, they were just leaning to citrus-y soda flavors like Sprite and Mountain Dew instead of good old lemonade.
- Flavor #3 - Their guess: Sour Gummy Worms, Real Flavor: Blue Raspberry. They were kind of right with this one, because some gummy worms are blue raspberry flavored. And at least they got the fruit element right.
