The movie “A Wrinkle In Time” hits theaters March 9 and to celebrate its release, the fierce witches from the story are now Barbies. And with Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, and Oprah starring as the powerful female characters who rescue men from evil forces, these famous faces are now the Barbie versions of Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Whatsit.
Ava DuVernay, director of the film based on the book by Madeleine L’Engle, tweeted a peek of the new dolls and they look amazing. She captions the photo: “When Disney makes Barbies of your movie’s characters and you just want to stare at them all day in disbelief because you loved Barbies as a girl but never had any like these.”
And she’s got a good point. These witches are warriors fighting the forces of evil, who can inspire kids to believe they can make a difference in the world. Plus, these Barbies look really cool. Mindy Kaling’s Mrs. Who Barbie comes with her diamond spectacles to see hidden things and Reese Witherspoon’s Mrs. Whatsit is the most youthful witch and has flowing long red hair. And Oprah’s Mrs. Which is fabulous, like the woman herself.
These Barbies are available for preorder and will be released February 23. They sell for $50 each, but when you check them out for yourself, you’ll see the detail and it makes sense. But you’re not going to want this ornate Barbie to be your toddler’s first one and watch her destroy it. You can keep it all for yourself!
