We all know that in some cities, rent is just too darn high, and for others you can probably get a three-bedroom apartment for what New Yorkers pay for a shoebox. So, in what cities do folks have it the worst?

Well, GoBankingRates looked at median rents in 50 major cities around the country to determine how much people need to spend for a one-bedroom apartment, and who's paying the most. They also looked at the cost of basic utilities and each city's walkability score.

The cities with the highest median rents shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Folks in San Francisco shell out the most for a one-bedroom, $3,393, followed by San Jose at $2,505 and New York at $2,395.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking to move to a place with cheap rents, your best bet is El Paso, Texas, where rent for a one bedroom is only about $555, followed by Detroit ($600), and Wichita, Kansas ($625).

New Yorkers will have the toughest time finding parking with their apartment, with only 5% of apartments coming with garage spaces. Luckily, the city has the highest walkability score of all 50 cities on the list.Folks in Anchorage, Alaska shell out he most for utilities, $270.48 a month, while those in San Diego pay the least, $107.49.For pet lovers, Buffalo, New York is the place to live with 52% of apartments allowing pets, followed by Washington, DC in second with 44%.
