Not even death will keep Ed Sheeran from releasing new music.
Sheeran may have just released his eighth studio album Play on Friday (September 12), but he's already planning a new album that will hopefully take decades to come to fruition. In a recent interview, the "Shape of You" singer revealed surprising new details about his plan to release a posthumous album called Eject, including the role his wife Cherry Seaborn will play in the project, per People. He's so serious about the idea that he has had it written into his will.
"It's actually in my will, and Cherry gets to pick the tracks," he said.
He continued, "My will of wishes is to make a record out of all the songs from the age of 18, so when I pass away, choose the 10 best. And it's like, imagine if Paul McCartney dies and there's early 16-year-old Beatles recordings and then right up to it, the 10 best of his entire career ... Lots of people won't like that of me, but there'll be lots of my fans that would find that super interesting."
Sheeran wouldn't be the first artist to have music released after they passed away, but unlike other projects that are overall "unplanned," he wants to make sure his album would have direction.
"And I don't want to go and someone just to jumble up stuff and put it out," he said. "I want it to be planned."
This also isn't the first time Sheeran has shared plans for his future post-death. He previously explained that he already has his own grave in his backyard.
Ed Sheeran will be taking over the stage at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Festival presented by Capital One on September 19 and 20 in Las Vegas. Fans can tune in to the music mega even all weekend as it will be broadcast live each night via iHeartMedia radio stations throughout the country across more than 150 markets. Hulu will be the Official Streaming Destination of the festival, with performances livestreamed each night exclusively to all Hulu subscribers.
