Cardi B's attorney is firing back at the woman who filed a civil lawsuit against her over the infamous microphone-throwing incident in 2023.
In a statement TMZ obtained on Thursday, July 24, Drew Findling, who's representing the "Outside" rapper for this case, said the lawsuit is nothing more than a money-making scheme for the alleged victim. The woman, only known as "Jane Doe," is suing Cardi for assault, battery, negligence, and emotional distress. Doe claims she experienced emotional distress after the microphone was auctioned off for $99,000. Findling believes the woman on her attorney are simply taking advantage of the situation.
"The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney’s Office closed this matter for insufficient evidence a long time ago, but apparently the opportunity to try to make money off of a celebrity was too much for some willing law firm to pass up," Findling said.
The incident happened two years ago during a day party at Drai's Beachclub in Las Vegas. At the time, Bardi was seen on video asking fans to throw cold water during the extremely hot event. However, Doe alleges the rapper intentionally chucked a microphone at her when she threw her cold drink on her. Cardi B had a positive reaction to other people when they splashed water on her during her performance. However, at one point, she did say the water came at her "too fast." When Doe threw her water, Cardi claimed the mixture of water and ice hit her hard.
Police investigated Cardi B and the allegations made by both sides. They decided not to press criminal charges against the parties involved. Cardi herself has not commented on the situation. She's currently focused on her upcoming album.
