Macklemore takes a stand in defense of college protestors all around the country with his powerful new song.
On Monday, May 6, the Washington-born artist unleashed his latest single "Hind's Hall." The title of the song was named after Hind Rajab, a six-year-old child who was killed in Gaza. It also stems from the Columbia University building known as Hamilton Hall, which is one of numerous locations where students have been protesting the war in Palestine. On the song, Macklemore supports the student protestors and takes a page out of N.W.A's book by expressing his feelings about the militant response from police.
"The problem isn't the protests, it’s what they're protestin'/It goes against what our country is fundin,'" Macklemore raps. "Block the barricade until Palestine is free/When I was seven, I learned a lesson from Cube and Eazy-E/What was it again? Oh yeah, f**k the police."
In his caption, Macklemore says all proceeds from the song will go toward the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). The lyric video features wild scenes from the Israel-Palestine conflict as well as chaos from all the protests that have broken out on college campuses around the U.S. At one point, Mack even lashes out against President Joe Biden and claims Joe "has blood on his hands."
"The blood is on your hands, Biden, we can see it all/And f**k no, I'm not voting for you in the fall," he rhymes.
Macklemore also decided to take the opportunity to fire a stray shot at artists like Drake amid his ongoing beef with Kendrick Lamar and other MC's. In his final verse, the "Can't Hold Us" rapper asked why other artists are being silent amid all the protests.
"What happened to the artist? What do you got to say?/If I was on a label, you could drop me today," he raps. "I'd be fine with it 'cause the heart fed my page/I want a ceasefire, f**k a response from Drake."
