Britney Spears Releases DJ Mustard-Produced 'Mood Ring' Collab Worldwide

Four years since the release of her ninth studio album, Glory, Britney Spears has unleashed "Mood Ring (By Demand)," her DJ Mustard collaboration, onto streaming services globally.

Originally released as a bonus track on the Japanese deluxe version of the LP, the brooding three-minute cut hears the pop titan soar to new heights as sings about a mixed bag of emotions with some sultry production to pair. "My love is a mood ring/ Up and down emotions, all these mood swings/ You know how to read the touch of my skin/ Nothing on my body but this mood ring/ You change me," she croons atop the heightening chorus, which transitions into a melodic breakdown of vocal chopping.

To celebrate its worldwide release, co-writers Melanie Fontana and Jon Asher hopped on social media to share some backstory about the cut. While the former played an early demo of track, Asher participated in an Exhale AMA, revealing that the song was initially intended for The Chainsmokers and Spears, but the EDM duo passed on it and she took it for herself. Meanwhile, Spears celebrated the song's release with a special message. "Repurposed this since we didn’t use it: You folks wanted a new album cover ….. ta da there you go," she wrote. "What was requested next is out now….. I hope you turn #MoodRing up sooooooo loud!!!!"

"Mood Ring (By Demand)" arrives on digital platforms after the successful fan-drive campaign to get Glory to the top of iTunes. In doing so, the loyal fanbase was also gifted with a new album cover for the LP shot by David LaChapelle. At time of press, the newly-released track had made its way to the No. 3 spot on iTunes Single Chart.
