Arizona Will Allow Veterinarians To Use Telemedicine To Examine Pets

Officials in Arizona are lifting restrictions toĀ allow veterinarians to diagnose animals via telemedicine. The move was made so animal owners can ensure their pets get the medical attention they need while still following social distancing guidelines enacted to slow the spread ofĀ COVID-19.

This will allow veterinarians to meet with people and their pets remotely using video chat programs or over the telephone. They will be able to diagnose the problem and offer treatment solutions and write a prescription if necessary.

ā€œEven as we physically distance, we want to ensure that pet owners and livestock producers can access the resources they need to properly care for animals,ā€Ā Arizona GovernorĀ Doug DuceyĀ said. ā€œThis order allows veterinary professionals to carry out their commitment to caring for Arizona animals, including house pets and farm animals, while Arizona residents practice physical distancing and limit time away from home.ā€

Under the order,Ā veterinarians would not be allowed to charge extra for telemedicine services, and insurance companies are required to cover the costs if they would have covered an office visit for the issue.
